I was quickly drawn into the world of Lucky, the abandoned pit puppy. It was a great idea, telling the story from Lucky's perspective. I do volunteer work in animal rescue, and know the misconceptions about the bully breed, and how many are euthanized because of an often anti pit bias fostered by the same media that preaches tolerance and respect for humans of different cultures and races.My only complaint is that the story was too short. The characters were just becoming real, and I would have liked more time with them.The writing was good, and (unlike many self published e-books) the spelling, punctuation and grammar were exceptional.I hope the writer's next offering is less a short story and more a full length book that is a bit more in depth. I guess I just want a chance to get more time with the characters. All in all a great reading experience.
What a great story this is! Narrated by Lucky, a stray Pit Bull dog who is on his own, readers will share a bit of the horrible conditions homeless dogs must endure in their daily struggles for survival. As the caretaker of a wonderful, loving stray Pit Bull (as well as other breeds), I can attest to the grossly misguided impression many people have of these beautiful creatures.Lucky has a happy ending. That isn't true for most stray dogs. Sadly, unscrupulous backyard breeders dump hundreds of thousands of hapless pups on animal shelters each year. Many - perhaps most - are killed because people are not willing to give them a good, loving home.PLEASE - Read "The Luckiest Dog in the World". Then you have a decision to make. You have several options. 1) You can visit your local animal shelter to adopt a homeless dog or cat; 2) You can donate your time and/or money to help a local animal shelter; or 3) You can ignore the plight of so many innocent, unwanted animals who only want a family they can love and protect.Then, whichever choice you select, please SPAY or NEUTER your dogs and cats, today. They really will thank you for it.
Wonderful. I have had many German shepherds over the years and loved them as long as they lived. After the last one died we were devastated. Went without dogs for a year while my daughter graciously brought her 2 labs and terrier to stay with us 3 days a week. One Sunday morning my daughter called and said I am coming over to get you and we are getting a dog today. I adopted my first pit bull cross that day, never thought I would get a pit bull of any kind. She was 2 years old then. One week later my husband and I went back to the shelter and adopted another! She is pit bull cross but has something else that makes her smaller and a pointer. We could not be happier! Have had them for 3 years. I am retired and they are the most loving perfect companions I could imagine. They were both obviously abused but have responded so well to our family who would never ever strike a dog. They trust and love us so much and are spoiled rotten! They complete our life with their unconditional love and tremendous personalities. Pure bred puppies look very tempting but their our so many adult dogs who so need a loving home. I would get a pit bull again and the cross breeds are generally healthier than the purebreds that we loved but had to mourn due to their tendency to get cancers early in life. Talk to my little "girls" all day long and they are so smart! Pit bulls and German shepherds get a bad rap. If treated with love and affection they are fabulous. Lucky is a pit bull puppy who had a rough start and was beaten and abused. Luckily, he found someone who was good to him. Thankfully, this story has a happy ending. I agree with the author - pit bulls are a thought to be mean dogs. They need good homes and compassionate training. Recommend this book.
I've been hooked on reading doggy books lately, specifically about Pit Bulls. This one is my favorite because it's really believable, with respect to a dogs somewhat narrow point of focus (in the now). The start of the story when Lucky's a puppy got to me because of his descriptions of his mother are so lovable and cute. His innocent thoughts and the tragic events of being trained as a guard dog pulls the heartstrings because he cannot figure why is this happening to him. Again, his descriptions of this event made me think that this must be what these wonderful dogs would have thought during this type of horrible experience. I was satisfied with the ending of the story because it caused me to grin and sigh. My final thoughts were of ... "I don't know, did a human really write this? or was it really Lucky. If he did, he most certainly writes better than any of my friends (honest).
Sounds like the life of my rescued pitbull. Happy that Lucky finally found his forever home. So did my Shadow. She was found beaten and chained to a city building in August, covered in fleas. She had found homes twice and was returned twice before I got her. I think I know why. She destroyed furniture. I lost a chair and most of a sofa plus lots of quits, blankets, and comforters. Then I found an old red blanket that she keeps close. We walk probably 2 miles a day and she loves her vet. Had her for 8 years now. She is the most kind hearted dog ever, at least in my world. Always glad to read "Happy" stories about pits. Of course most of the dogs I have had in my 67 years, were probably pits, looked a lot like Lucky. We just called them "mixed breeds." Thank you for this adorable story of an abused dog. A dog lover from the word go, I do believe that pit bulls get a bad rap, as did the German Shepherd. I have seen both aggressive, and very friendly pits. Depends on the Master of the house or the Mistress of the house. Thank you for this adorable short story from the dogs perspective.
