It's interesting how your likes and dislikes change with age. When I read it the first time in the 70s, I loved it. This time around it was enjoyable but not as exciting. I think being from Fort Worth and recognizing landmarks may have influenced me. However, it is a very fast and enjoyable read.....particularly if you are a golf fan.

I read this book in my twenties, my thirties and now again in my late forties. It still makes me laugh out loud. It's so much a tale from a different era. Everything Dan Jenkins writes is evocative of a past that I never got to experience, but wish I lived in. Even this book, set in the eighties, really speaks of a Fort Worth and golf world of the 50s and 60s.

This has been one of my favorite movies for a long time. It is without question Randy Quaid's best movie. Very tough to find...it's only on VHS and you'll pay a big price for a sealed copy. However...if you can get your hands on it I highly recommend the movie. Even if you can't get the movie...the book is equally good...very rarely do I believe that the book isn't better than the movie but the movie is just that good.

Best golf story I've ever read! I wanted to buy the video but the movie came out before DVD's. From what I can see it is only available on VCR and those people wanted $20 for it! I think "Tin Cup" was the best golf movie but this ranks a close second. Dan Jenkins is a master at ribald story telling. It will keep you in stitches!

A perfect choice for me as I am an avid golfer living on a golf course. A lot of golf humor. I have seen the movie version and it was very entertaining.

much too bigotted, thru book in trash

This book is a fast read and a completely irreverant and bawdy look at the inside world of Pro Golf. I had to set it down so many times to wipe my eyes from laughing so hard that it interrupted the thoughts...well nearly. There is a character in it who just can't play the game at the level of his Pro buddies and his string of epiphets are of legendary friends who I used to play with. Even down to my friend throwing his golf bag into a lake in Davis, Ca. "...blasted thinrodoit, rummy, farking, recalcitrant morunetated, gibble strak!!Dipple f*&^ing grunt!" among others...as his ball sliced off through the trees into the next fairway. GREAT READ. I would like to add the writer skilfully added a personal touch of troubles in his life and a great ending.

For me, it wasn't all that funny, and far too raunchy

About the Author

Lori T. Andersen, EdD, OTR/L, FAOTA, received her Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Services from Springfield College, her Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the Medical College of Virginia, and her Doctorate in Education from Nova Southeastern University. She has more than 15 years of experience in clinical practice and more than 20 years in academia. Her academic positions in occupational therapy have included the following: Associate Professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, Professor at Nova Southeastern University, Visiting Clinical Associate Professor at Florida International University, and Professor at Brenau University. She is now enjoying retirement, pursuing such passions as traveling and researching the history of occupational therapy.  Kathlyn (Kitty) L. Reed, PhD, OTR, FAOTA, MLIS, is Associate Professor Emeritus, School of Occupational Therapy, Texas Woman’s University, Houston, Texas. She completed her basic education in occupational therapy at the University of Kansas, received a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Western Michigan University, obtained a doctorate in special education from the University of Washington, and was awarded a second master’s in information and library studies from the University of Oklahoma. She has been active in occupational therapy for over 50 years as a practitioner, educator, and consultant. Reed has authored several textbooks in occupational therapy and co-authored textbooks in physical therapy and speech-language pathology.  She was named a fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) in 1975, received the AOTA Award of Merit in 1983 and presented the Eleanor Clarke Slagle lectureship at the AOTA annual conference in 1986. She has served in the AOTA Delegate and Representative Assemblies representing three different state associations and was chair of the AOTA Ethics Commission. She is a member of the Texas Occupational Therapy Association, the World Federation of Occupational Therapists and the Society for the Study of Occupation. Her interests include tracking assessments developed by occupational therapists
