This book is so condescending and misogynistic. I regret buying it. I gave it to my husband and within a couple chapters he was reading me excerpts in disbelief. Filled with inspiring quotes such as "Make it clear to your BMP (Baby Making Partner) that you still expect a hot meal and foot rub upon your arrival home from work." and "up to 15% of men suffer from postpartum depression, and that's only the number of wimps who are actually willing to admit it." I scoured the context for signs this was a joke -- it certainly didn't seem that way. Sorry for being a buzzkill, but even if it is meant as a joke, I really don't find jokes about something like PPD very funny, especially when they mock the people who are brave enough to stand up and seek help for themselves. So no, I do not recommend this. I think that men who have respect for their "Baby Making Partner" and for themselves as a parent-to-be would rather read something with more useful information and less condescension packaged as fratty humor.

This book is SO BAD. Here and there you can find little helpful facts if your a first time father but otherwise you're basically reading bad jokes that sound like they are coming from an adult who is trying too hard to relate to a frat guy.I would read parts of the book aloud to my wife just because they were so outrageous and she couldn't believe I could keep reading. The book ranges from immature potty humor to flat out sexist remarks.If you want something actually informative but still clever, go buy Be Prepared. This book is a waste.

Highly recommend this book for first time dad's. The humor is light and usually needed at the time anyone would be reading this book. There's a lot of things that to-be dad's don't know, and this way of approaching worked great for me. You'll likely have more serious reads as you make your way thru the pregnancy, so this is a good place to start. It helped us have the right attitude though the whole process. I've shared my copy with several friends and they thought the same thing.

This book is awful. Seriously, save yourself the money. Instead, find a drunken frat buddy -- ideally one who is a failed comic. If they're childless, the advice will be on-par with this book. If they have a kid, then you actually might come out ahead. Either way, at least you'll be drunk.This book makes every stupid cliche joke you can think of. Worst of all, it imparts little-to-no useful information.Unsatisfied, I looked around for another book, and found "The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips, and Advice for Dads-to-Be." I'm about 1/3 of the way in, but I've already learned more than I did from the entirety of the "Dude!" book.Seriously, I read the entire thing.Learn from my pain.Do not buy this book.

I bought this book to tell my husband I was pregnant. He loved the news and the book as a way to announce. His feedback was that there was good amount helpful advice, but he felt it was geared towards men who are less sensitive and involved than he is. The author encourages BMPs (baby making partners) to be involved in all aspects of pregnancy, especially naming. Beware, apparently he makes a fair argument for Danger as a middle name because my husband has referred to my bump as "danger" ever since reading the book.

There aren't as many books out there for expecting dads as there are the moms. I ordered this one for my husband as I was reading quite a bit while pregnant and wanted him to have something to pick up and read too if he felt inclined. My husband just didn't like the book. He said it was cheesy and made many silly references to sports throughout. He was hoping for more information and less bad jokes and comparisons. I did not read the book myself so please consider that fact while assessing my 2 star review which is entirely based on the feed back from the hubby. If you are reading this and currently expecting, congratulations!

The basics are covered but tries to hard to be "cool", at the expense of making fun of others and shovanistic jokes. A lot of jokes made my husband cringe more than laugh. By the time he got through about half he couldn't do it anymore. He never finished it and opted to read a different book. Disappointed it wasn't the right one for him but maybe it will be for some dude-bro.

As a soon-to-be dad for the first time, I wanted a book that casually explained what my partner is experiencing during her pregnancy. I want to be informed, but I didn't need the moralizing or overly emotional approach. This book provides some good basic info, but nothing more extensive than you could get from any pregnancy app on your phone. The boob and sex jokes, peppered in about every fourth line, get old and made me feel sleazy. It gives the book the air of frat brother harassing a new pledge about knocking up his girlfriend. I know, I know, the "Dude" in the title should have tipped me off, and I did read the sample before I bought it. But, I assumed the author could only ride a cheap sex joke so far. Instead, he's relentless. There have to be more informative, less idiotic approaches to books for first-time dads.I will say the birth story appended at the end of the book (not written by the author, by the way) was very interesting and informative.

Every page feels like a well-designed web page.More of an art than a book.

I absolutely loved this book, so well-written and and such a nice print. I have decent amount of experience with other programming/scripting languages but I was a complete beginner in web development with zero knowledge of html and css. This book was an excellent start for learning both.The only small issue is that it was written when html5 was under development and although it covers many of the html5 features, the core of the book is not html5, especially with extensively covering subjects like flash videos. That is why an update would help a lot.Having said all that, if I want to recommend a book for html and css, it would be definitely 100% this book. You can build your base knowledge with this and it does a great job at that, and later you will be able to extend your knowledge with many other available ways.

I bought this as I'm in the process of preparing to transition in my career back to being a front-end or full-stack developer -- after about 15 years away from it. I'd been keeping current with HTML and CSS development, so this was a purchase intended to be a quick refresher and to get better acquainted with some of the things added with HTML5. The book itself is well-produced -- full color printing throughout, and well-organized, and it touches on categories beyond just basic HTML and CSS. The only issues I have are minor quibbles and related to outdated information -- no sense in including information about embedding Flash in a website, given that it's a dead tech and has been supplanted by HTML5 interactivity and video. Information in the SEO section is outdated as well, and isn't just the non-issue that the book implies -- it can actually have a negative effect. All in all, though, an okay book to get back to up-to-speed on front-end development, and a fantastic book for the beginner.

Okay I have read a lot of development and code books and while there are a lot of good ones out there, I would say this has been one of my favorites. The author has done very well in explaining conceptually and with practical application and use of the development process and understanding syntax of HTML and CSS. Love it! I still occasionally reference it when I need to touch base with the fundamentals again. but i have let several friends borrow this book to learn coding. I would recommend to have it in your library as a go to resource and learning tool.

Excellent book for any skill-level, but essential to all beginners! The content is laid out in a very fun fashionable way that will hold the reader's interest. The content is clear, concise and well-ordered. I once believed that once you've seen one HTML+CSS book, you've seen them all, but this one is truly one of a kind. The paper quality and design is bar-none a graphical artist's dream.HOWEVER...The build quality. Upon first time cracking this book open, you will feel how stiff and sensitive the binding is. I am very afraid to press down on the spine to get the book to lay down more flat to make reading words closer to inside the page simple. Judging by other reviewers, my fear is truly founded. But for now, all is intact. Will update if there are any changes to this current event...

Like the other Duckett book on Jquery, this book is a pleasure to read. Most technical books take some intestinal fortitude to slog through the boring parts, and reflect the geeky mentality of their authors. This book is actually pleasant -- what makes it unusual is the production quality -it has beautiful type-setting, has a liberal use of color, and the writing is clear. Of course, there is a problem with a book like this -- it lacks some of the comprehensiveness of more densely written tomes. Nevertheless, I am very pleased to have such a pleasant way to go over the basics. Sure, everything is available through google, but this book is a lot easier to deal with than a blog.I bought the hard-cover binding version, after reading reviews saying that the paperback falls apart. The hard-cover is fine, although a bit heavy. This is not the kind of book you bring with you to read at a boring outdoor activity. It is just too heavy.

I really like this book. A lot. The information is fantastic and will have you rolling in no time, but the layout really is something else. This is one of the most pleasantly designed books I've ever encountered, and I do a ton of reading. If you're looking at the page count and feeling intimidated, don't. There's a lot of open space on most of the pages, and the actual text you're working with is short and sweet.I work in IT, but I've never really messed with HTML or CSS before. With that in mind, I spent a couple hours skimming through this and checking out the HTML lessons on w3schools, then downloaded Adobe Brackets and went to town. I may be pretty lame, but I've been having a ball with this stuff.Very interesting material written well. I'd recommend this to anyone and everyone. Money definitely well spent.

Guys I had a basic understanding of html and css when I bought this book. And guess what, I was blown away by the contents. There was soooo much new stuff in this book that I didn't find on youtube tutorials. Trust me...if you want to start web designing carrier here is the base that you should step on. The writer had put so much effort on it. It is colorful and detailed. For me the best thing was there was NO JUNK on it. Straight to the point. No zigzag and crapy stuff. This is how all books should be made. Thank you Jon. And please write some more on advanced levels. jQuery, Java-Script, github, Backbone Js, Angular JS, Unit testing....all you can cover. The first thing to note about this course is that, at 84 lectures, it's really LONG. For anyone who wishes to tackle it, I suggest pacing yourself and not being in hurry, because otherwise you might burn out before the end and things may start to blur together -- I'd recommend not more than 1 or 2 lectures per day. But if you make the committment to take this journey, the effort will be well worth it because, at the end, you will have experienced quite an education through this one course alone.As the title indicates, the course deals with Western intellectual history, with an emphasis on philosophy, and with some lectures on religion also included. Knowledge in this area could be considered foundational for cultural literacy, and this course nicely complements other excellent TTC courses in this regard (eg, Lloyd Kramer's courses focusing on the past two centuries).The course has several lecturers, and I generally found that to be good thing, since the variety helps to keep things fresh. Moreover, all of the lecturers are at least pretty good, and some are excellent.Overall, I highly recommend the course for anyone seeking a good general education, and philosophy fans will especially enjoy it.

This is over two thousands years, in chronological order, of Western progression, culture, moral development, theology, politics, and psychology. From Plato through Nietzsche and Bacon; and beyond. After purchasing this DVD set directly from the Teaching Company, I discovered the VHS and cassette version identical except Amazon Marketplace is 1/2 the price. My big mistake. Many cassette and VHS versions are no longer sold on Teaching Company Website, they can sell DVD's for double or triple price with no additional information, so I guess I don't blame them, but I now buy exclusively from Amazon Marketplace. Yes, I had to buy a $20 cassette player. The $100-$200 Amazon savings was so worth it, why didn't I do this sooner? As an avid customer of The Teaching Company and The Great Courses, I couldn't recommend this audio version higher. These 71 lectures are informative and highly educational, another great course by the teaching company.

They start the first chapter on presocratics by ignoring Democritus. Democritus is the most modern of all ancient philosophers and the most interesting. Anyone who would make a decision this stupid has little to offer. They are also pompous academics who use unnecessary and silly philosophical jargon throughout in a book meant for a general audience.

I'm not sure what I can say that I havent said in a review for any of GBs books. They are all really well written stories that are hard to put down. I will buy anything she puts out without hesitation, and I'm always a little sad to finish her books because I'll have to wait for the next release. If you are new to her books, you need to read them all. Every single one because there isnt a bad one in the whole long list of them!

For me, this story was a much needed change from the typical Les-Fic romance. Lots of romance to be had, but a solid story about bullying, and how it can affect people even as they get older and think they’ve moved on and healed.Characters were real and dialogue was spot on.....GBs best since Olive Oil and White Bread

Where is the story? The high school story if elaborated would have made a better one. This book is really sad.

Georgia Beers never fails to tell an engaging romantic page turner. This is an excellent romance, it’s hard to try new authors when Beers consistently hits the mark every time. Great characters, great story, I read it in one sitting.

I enjoy that the characters are so real and flawed in this book. Written with enough details to make it more than another cheesy romance novel- it’s another winner by Beers.

Been a fan of Georgia Beers since she published “Thy Neighbors Wife” which I really enjoyed. But honestly, the “Do Over” was just mediocre at best.

I get so revved up when I read books that focus on bullying. It is so difficult for me to read. Perhaps because I went through a bit of that myself. From both sides of the fence. Yes, kids are definitely cruel.But for Bella (who went by Izzy back in high school), there were none more cruel than Tara and her gal pal Easton. They tormented her to the point that Izzy had to leave town and never look back.Then Easton ends up attending a corporate conflict resolution course that Bella is facilitating. Boom. Sparks fly. But not the hateful kind Bella would have expected.This story revolves around Bella contemplating her attraction and the potential for more without ever telling Easton that she was her bully back in high school. (Easton doesn't recognize her because she has had a miraculous glow up.)I really enjoyed this book, but it was not perfect. There is something revealed about Easton that is a terrible character flaw and yet it is glossed over by EVERYONE. "It's OK. You were just figuring yourself out!" - Nope. So it was hard for me to really get behind her after that. I eventually got over it, but I just don't think it was necessary. Could have been made a different scenario with the same kind catalyst for her divorce with Conner.Speaking of Conner, toward the end the author had Easton reaching out to him. But it just didn't make sense when in previous conversation, she had mentioned that her Grandpa is the one who knows everything and gets her. I felt a little bit let down that we were never able to see that relationship. It would have been more impacting if he would have had some sage advice that paved her way.Overall, this was a quick and enjoyable romance. I really liked Bella and her friends. The interactions between Easton and Bella was flirty and sweet.I received an ARC through Netgalley from Bold Strokes Books for an honest review.

Bella (Izzy) Hunt hated high school. She didn’t look like the rest, she wore second hand clothes. And to make matters worse she was starting to question her sexuality. Unfortunately she also was an easy target for the cool kids to pick on. Part of that group isEaston Evans, perfect in every way (or so it seemed to Izzy) but she too was questioning her own sexuality. Easton along with her boyfriend Conner followed the leader of their little group, Queen Bee Tara in making Izzy’s high school years a living hell. Now years later Easton has to take a class in conflict resolution, along with the other managers of the company they work for. Bella (Izzy) is now a therapist, so when she’s asked to lead the class she is shocked to see Easton. She remembers everything from high school and how Easton treated her. Easton doesn't recognise Bella at all. All she see is someone she would love to get to know better. This book by Ms Beers reminds me of her book ‘Olive Oil and White Bread’, where she again takes the time to delve into the characters, making this one of her best. Very, very enjoyable. Are the two cases a combination of the work of one madman, or was this all a coincidence. Bosch doesn't believe in coincidences. There are hints as to whom is doing the killing, but why, and how were they lured to their excruciating deaths.Then, Harry's ex wife is keeping a secret. He knows she is and this is one of those mysteries he must solve. However, when he discovers what this life changing secret is, he could never have imagined what it turned out to be.The book was interesting how the crimes were solved, they were led to certain places that apparently they were led to intentionally. They were being played.

Harry Bosch has retired from the LAPD and is trying to drum up business for his new career as a private investigator. He lands a case, probably the last one he wants, to investigate the death of good friend Terry McCaleb who was an FBI agent before his own retirement. In the course of his investigation Harry stumbles on a huge excavation taking place off Zzyzx Road, a nowhere junction along I-15 between LA and Las Vegas. (I’ve seen it several times and it always provoked a laugh.) Turns out the excavators are FBI folks and they are finding a number of bodies whose deaths point to a nemesis called The Poet. One of the FBI agents at the “big dig” is Rachel Walling, an old friend of Bosch who’s been brought down from her office in South Dakota to help. She’s been warned about taking too aggressive a role in this investigation but she does have a good reason to participate fully; The Poet is a psycho named Backus who was Rachel’s FBI mentor many years before. Bosch is not welcomed by the FBI; they don’t want any help from a retired LA police officer, thank-you-very-much. But Bosch doesn’t care about that because he has his own case to worry about. And since he’s in the Las Vegas vicinity, it’s a great opportunity to get over to “Sin City” and see his daughter, Maddie, who lives there with her mother, Eleanor. Backus is also the master of many disguises and is watching everyone closely. As you might suspect, “outsiders” Bosch and Walling get together (in several ways) to hunt and find Backus in a tension-filled ending.

The Harry Bosch series is the best crime series I've ever read and, for my money, this is one of the very best in the series (it's close between this one, Echo Park, and The Concrete Blonde). Read Connelly's earlier novel, The Poet, before reading this. Although Bosch isn't in The Poet, there are important connections between that book and this one, and you'll enjoy this all the more with that background. And The Poet is a great book in its own right. If you've enjoyed Michael Connelly before you'll like this one, too. If you've never read him, get started and welcome to the party.

This is a very good writer and a very smart one. I have read many of his books, all these people that move around and in LA. Bosch, Mike Haller, the journalist , Kiz, Rachel Walling , etc , they all form a group of interesting people, different characters, all working crimes, intricate intrigues, quite atmospheric, .....simply good entertaining writing.

Connelly and Harry Bosch are always a good read and The Narrows is certainly no exception. Having been a cop for 33 years in an LA County city so much of what Connelly writes is so right on target regarding police work, victims and the criminal justice system. Connelly gets it about the FBI's and their bureaucratic, highminded ways that get in the way of good street level investigative police work. While The Narrows is a little weak in capturing my complete attention, I could put this one down, it is a wonderful read.

The crossover books that cover multiple main characters frequently tend to have to much ground to cover on all sides to satisfy the readers of each series. This generally means that the main story itself must be simpler, as was the case with this one whee the villain was revealed very early on. Also, the attempted twist at the end was not really very well conceived, as it essentially meant that it truly was a major coincidence that Bosch became heavily involved in the case at all. While potentially heavily ironic for those familiar with that character, it was also quite unbelievable. However, even with those shortcomings, this was still a very good read. The pacing was generally good and the use of multiple settings to develop the story also worked well.

Wilson, historical consultant to Colts Manufacturing Company, Inc., has aided the various Colt museums in Hartford, Connecticut, since 1959, and is a free-lance consultant and author in the fields of firearms, collecting, and engraving His career an with intern positions at the Royal Armouries, H.M. Tower of London, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Wadsworth Atheneum, where he was appointed curator of firearms in 1962. He is president of the Armor and Arms Club of New York and has served on advisory boards or as consultant on arms-related subjects to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the U.S. Historical Society, the Cowboy Hall of Fame, The Franklin Mint, and the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum. He also serves on the board of directors of the National Firearms Museum in Washington, D.C., and is consultant on American arms to Christie's the international auction house.Wilson was born in Minnesota and studied history and art as a scholarship student at Carleton College. A hefty coffee table book! This is a great book (gift) for youth between the ages of 6-12. Easy to read, bold colorful photographs and a decent historical timeline. This book touches the surface of Winchester (only Winchester) as a historical reference. In short, you'll crave more information. And you'll want to know more events confronting Winchester Arms during the early periods of its evolution. Such as the Civil War and Winchester's rivalry with the Spencer rifle. This is not a comprehensive book on the history of Winchester during "and" including America's history, but instead, a fun timeline of the Henry rifle and its evolution into the Winchester carbine, rifle, and musket. Is it worth purchasing? Absolutely!

I bought a copy of this book as a gift for a friend. After paging through it, I bought another copy for myself. I'd call it a "coffee table" book, full of large color pictures and great stories and facts regarding Winchester rifles. There are aspects of the book that could be used as reference material, however, it's a book that is better suited for pure enjoyment.

While my husband was happy with his gift, the corner of the book was damaged...I was disappointed. Also, the ship time seemed quite lengthy. Overall, I must say this transaction left me unimpressed.

Incredible author - his last book, and definitely worth reading if you have any desire to live off the land (even just an acre or 2). This prolific writer lived the life that many would love to emulate. Get away from the grind, live simply, live richly. I have read much of Logsdon's writing, and looked forward to this one being written as he knew he was dying from cancer. I highly recommend it.

Mr. Logsdon's last book is outstanding. The garden farm is growing exponentially and Gene's writing captures the essence of this movement. All of his books make you think and dream.

This book is well written, very informative concerning the mega farms. Mr. Logsdon is demonstrating that smaller farms operated by the owner and his family is a much more efficient way to farm and care for the land. He points out how the Amish farmers are successful farming without the large expensive machinery.

While it may not be fair to give five stars (or any stars) to a book I'm still in the middle of, what can I say, Gene was on the mark, contrariness and all!

I bought this for a young, organic farmer, but had to read it first since Logsdon was a contributing columnist to the local paper I take. For someone who wants to live simply, this is a wonderful guide.

I never been disappointed with anything gene logsdon ever wrote.

All Mr. Logsdon's books very worth the read and this is no exception

I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in how farming or agriculture is currently and will be going in the future. Logsdon has a prophetic voice for the future of agriculture. I am convinced of his convictions and await the day that I can tell everyone to read this book followed by a “ told you so!”

Living in NYC & married to a first gen Chinese I was drawn to this story when I read about the recent passing of Cheng Chui Ping in a Texas prison. Having only living in NYC for 6 years and frequently visiting NYC Chinatown, the story opened my eyes and will give me a different perspective on future visits. I found Sister Ping to be a hero. Although she amassed a reportedly $40m (which I'm sure is overstated) she did it for the people. Her customers paid and were aware of the risks. I inferred from the story she did everything she could to take care of her customers including providing supplies, shelter and money when there was troubled on the route. She did break the law and deserved punishment, but to receive the max was nothing more than a political play. Ironically the judge (Mukasey) at her trial was nominated to become the attorney general of the US.My condolences to Cheng Chui Ping's family.

The Snakehead begins in medias res with an extremely interesting and attention-grabbing story, then goes into the background situation that brought that event about. I learned so much about human smuggling and the Chinese Mafia that I hadn't known before. The book is centered around a woman who runs a huge Chinese human smuggling operation, Sister Ping, but also explores the street "politics" that surround and support her venture. There are many characters introduced (it's a non-fiction book, however, so these aren't fictional characters), but it's not hard to keep track of them at all (plus the author includes a little Who's Who section at the beginning of the book that lists all of the names he mentions and describes who they are). This book is extremely compelling, and I highly recommend it.

If you're broadly interested in immigration, demographics, and true crime this book is right up your alley. Easily one of the best books I've read in the last 5 years or so.

all in all a great read and super interesting. definitely confused names up once in a while, but very much enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend to anyone.

A true tale that reads like an adventure. In fact it is a genuine human adventure with heroes & villains. But mostly human determination and perseverance!

I was assigned this book for an Organized Crime class at UCI. I found it very engaging, as it's mainly told in a story-like format. I was able to retain alot of the information because of this, and it was a very exciting read.

The map has creases, but I won't be framing it for show so I suppose that's fine. The main problem is that the map is in Spanish with an English key. Again, this isn't a massive problem, but will cause some issues as most research sites are in the English translation.

Good map (paper). Not laminated, but a little less expensive. Can easily be framed, which is what I did, to preserve its integrity. Otherwise, map can be damaged (flimsy). Overall, I feel map deserves 5 stars, because it meets its intended purpose at a reasonable price. Recommended.

Poor product packaging means crushed edgesExcellent poster map, well printed, with a nice finish. However, the product is very poorly packaged. Consequently the edges of the poster are damaged.

Excellent presentation, and great details on the map

Detailed and accurate. What more could you want. I laminated my map and put it on my coffee table for reference.

We are taking it to a high school in Nicaragua along with Spanish books that has neither books or maps of any kind. A great gift.

The highest resolution, best quality Africa map I've found. Up to date and has better roads than some much more expensive ones.
