If you’ve always wanted your own collection of, say, skulls, shrunken heads, anatomy specimens, or serial-killer souvenirs but can’t really afford it (or your spouse or your Mum won’t let you bring such things in the house), this is the book for you. It showcases 17 modern American (I think) collectors of “the uncommon and the bizarre” and their collections, with a full-page picture of each collector and around 15 photos of items from his or her collection. All photos are in color; some are full-page size, other half or quarter page. Text consists of two pages on each collector, answering such expected questions as How did you start collecting, What is your favorite piece, and What would you say to people who find this kind of object scary or disgusting; each picture from the collections is also captioned. Themes that appear frequently include the importance of such items as unappreciated aspects of history and an interest in the way that cultures in different times and places have responded to death. My only complaint about the book is that I wish it had been larger than its approximately 8x10” size so that the pictures could have been even bigger.If you do like this sort of thing, I also recommend Viktor Wynd’s Cabinet of Wonders (which does have larger dimensions, and includes collections in addition to Wynd’s); Paul Koudounaris, The Empire of Death: A Cultural History of Ossuariies and Charnel Houses; and Patrick Mauries, Cabinets of Curiosities (historic collections that included, but also usually went beyond, the bizarre or morbid to include a wide range of specimens from nature and art).

First, the physical book is beautiful. Heavy stock, edged in black, is a joy to touch and turn. Rather than interrupt the flow with glossy plates, the photos are beautifully printed on the same stock in matte, which suits the mood of the book.The text is brief but informative. It's clear each subject was asked the same set of questions, but they are good questions, so I looked forward to each answer. I tend to skim text and descriptions, but I read each and every word of this book. Delicious from start to finish.If you are a fan of Oddities, you will recognize some folks. If you love dark things, there is something here for you.

Such a diverse and amazing collection of uniquely nteresting people and the "odd" things they collect. One of my personal favorites is the feature on Mik Miller! What a fascinating life he has led and to think he almost ended up as the entree! Lots and lots of detailed photos. You won't be disappointed.

Here's a book the has the opportunity to be a really interesting book. Looking through, I saw that at least 3 of collectors are from a TV show "Oddities" Which is OK I guess. I thought "oh boy, more details on these folks" - not. My biggest objection is that the photos are so blurry as to be annoyingly useless. Then there's the print, which such a small font that I cannot read it even with my bifocals. I got this for my wife for Yule. What an embarrassingly disappointing book.

No oddity/curiosity book will be big enough or hold enough content to satisfy everyone. However, this book is very good quality. It has a kitschy look to it for display. The content is very good. It gives some insight not only into the items, but into the people who collect them and I think that is just as important. The photos are well presented and there's information about each one, not a bunch of pictures thrown in with nothing.Bottom line, if you're looking for an introduction to collecting oddities or you're just curious, etc.... This is a nice little book.

I also enjoyed Ms. Mgboli's writing style, and her eloquence but simplicity in getting points across.I do wish the book went more in-depth. Key points (attract, seduce, etc) were stated as being important, but then the next key point was discussed. For me, this book was more about how to get into the mindset of a courtesan and to prepare yourself for dating at this level.

Even if what you desire isn't wealth, this book impressed upon women the importance of putting ourselves first - of being selfish so that we might fill our own cups so that they overflow to fill others'. This book I put on par with Napoleon Hill's iconic Think And Grow Rich. But it is geared towards women, it is much shorter, and much easier to understand.It is, in my opinion, essential reading for all women. When we treat ourselves and our dreams with respect and love, those things come back to us tenfold in the form of blessings.

Ms. Mgboli does a superb job of capsulizing all the info out there on understanding and utilizing Feminine Energy (aka/ Power, Essence, whatever one chooses to call it).Make no mistake: Although she focuses on 4 courtesans in relatively modern human existence, these naturally-occurring behaviors of said human existence have effected/shaped reality since the first two humans (a man and a very different, but complementary, woman) interacted/transacted.Internalized and allowed to, this is a definite life-changer for the brave and fed up - ready to stop accepting their own excuses and finally live the life they were created to - forever.It’s so good, I recommended this book after barely getting to Chapter 2 (which took enormous self-discipline, as she had me at the Introduction’s first two paragraphs). However, I finished the book (in one sitting) and am so impressed - I am writing a rare review (and at 4AM, no less, ha!)

This book is excellent to improve how you see yourself as an individual and how you see yourself as a woman within a society.

I enjoyed reading this book. The information was rare and valuable. I was not aware of these women and they definitely were not among our history books in grade school.

Behavioral science has concluded that individuals are not born with their attitudes in place; rather, attitudes are developed by the influences, information, and experiences to which people are exposed." That remains true for union membership.I also love the example at the end of the book "Member files a grievance that presents a steward with a chance to educate the member about the important role the union plays in bringing due process to the workplace."Most importantly I agree with the fact that there needs to be a new emphasis on "Organizing" as opposed to "Servicing." Labor unions need to become much more than, Contracts-R-Us, a dues collector, and a grievance machine.This is a book for every union member to get onboard. However, the attachment aspect that Johnson provides warms that house, pulls us close on a heart (and soul) level, making a true Home between partners. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in improving important relationships (their own or their client's).

This book saved our marriage. Seriously, a counselor could only give us the typical tools like "I statements," forgiveness, etc. but it wasn't helping. This book taught us to focus on the emotions we were expressing in a way that we gave each other love instead of pouring salt on our wounds. Now, we are in a renaissance, of sorts, very happy and treating each other with the love we need, like when we were newliweds, only better because of our history and experience. Very highly recommended.

I was skeptical at first when a colleague recommended this book. After all, there are so many approaches out there. What could be so transformative about this one? But I must say that this book has completely revolutionized how I think about doing couples therapy, as well as about my own relationships. Communication skills or digging through childhood wounds, while often relevant, just never seemed to quite be enough to help couples. This book teaches you to understand that most arguments, no matter their content, are really protests about disconnection. I highly recommend this perspective to everyone. It might just save your relationship.

The conversations involved seem too tricky and open--that to undertake on your own when a relationship is already in a difficult stage. It feels like you still need a trained therapist to lean on, at least at the start.

This is totally different from Matt's running science books. This is an introspective and touching examination of his life with running and with his wife. It is a great read for endurance sport book fans and earns it's ranking for #1 book right now on bipolar disorders. Not what I expected but strongly recommended.

This is a memoir from a very well known running writer, and it’s quite a bit different from his rather technical books. It starts out focused on his running, in high school and college days, with looks into his social life at that time, as well. There are lots of details on his runs and on his social life, but not much that is inward-looking, philosophizing, or feeling. He backed off from early pressure from coaches, and felt poorly about himself because of that. To me, it felt like listing to his story over beer and pizza. Depending on how you click with Fitzgeralds’s personality, this may appeal to you more than it did to me.Fitzgerald’s social life comes to focus on Nataki, who becomes his wife. As his personal life becomes more complicated, in part due to Nataki’s bipolar disorder, he pours himself into running. To me, this memoir comes across as a look at how someone who isn’t particularly introspective handles the life by throwing himself deeply into physical activity. But, I can’t claim to really know what is going on in Fitzgerald’s mind, just how it looks to me.As far as I could tell, Fitzgerald doesn’t find much joy in his running; it seems to be more about forgetting his troubles and proving his grit.I’m giving this 3 stars as that as how I think a fair number of people similar to me, would rate this book, as well, and I want to let them know my perspective on the book. Those who are more similar to Fitzgerald in personality would likely enjoy this “memoir over beer and pizza” much more, and for them it would probably rate a 4 or 5. I do love quite a few of Fitzgerald’s books on running and nutrition.But that’s JustMe.

I really enjoyed this author's writing style and story line. If you're looking for a mechanical running book, this isn't it - but it's a wonderful human interest story that includes running. While the ending is up beat and positive, this isn't a feel good, smarmy book - it's the down-to-earth story of a real relationship with big challenges and problems, and how the author really feels about those problems. No sugar coating here - if you're looking for a feel good read, this might not be it - but the author loves his partner and is learning to love himself, and that makes the story accessible and interesting.Mechanically, the author is an able story teller, and I finished this up in just a couple of days. I wanted to know what was next for the author, and that kept me coming back for the next marathon.Good read, worth reading.

The charity, in fact, is the Treatment Advocacy Center, an organization that works to remove barriers to proper care for sufferers of serious mental illness, and the official charity partner of Fitzgerald’s “Life Is a Marathon Project”. It turns out that the reason for the author’s commitment to this endeavor is because his wife Nataki is a sufferer of Bipolar Disorder.A significant part of my interest in this exceptional memoir – besides the fact that it IS a memoir, my current genre of choice – is that distance running is a passion of two of my granddaughters, both of whom have participated in several marathons and one of whom actually just completed an amazing and challenging 55-mile ultra-marathon in the fantastic canyon country of AZ-UT. I hope to share this book with them and other members of my family who have an interest in this endurance sport.Fitzgerald contends that every race is different, and dwells upon the significance of the "community" and spirit of altruism that develops among contestants. His story is filled with vivid, humorous, and in some cases harrowing descriptions of the actual race conditions, mishaps, and adventures. This book is very authentic, but also lots of fun!

I intended to give this to my adult daughter but when I saw how many ingredients were needed to make the different products, I knew she couldn’t afford them and will probably never use it.I kept it for myself and have made some milk bath. I liked it but it was costly. I also had to use a blender....which means I won’t be using that for food since after putting essential oils in it.I was thinking of making holiday gifts for volunteers at work. If you’re not worried about money or going to make in bulk, then I don’t recommend this book.

Since I am on a limited income, I've turned to homemade items for the bulk of my holiday gift giving. This year I plan to make and mail different spa items and was looking for a good basic book that would provide simple recipes and a range of ideas. I was happy that this little book of fewer than 100 pages fit the bill. There are recipes for both bath & shower items. The only items that are somewhat costly are the essential oils, but a little goes a long way and there are some that are used in multiple recipes. I can access everything else cheaply and/or in bulk, and I plan to keep some items for my own use. I think for a basic book on the subject, this is the best book I've seen for the price. I recommend it highly.

Very happy with the book. Easy to understand. Simple directions. List of ingredients upfront with description for people who just don't know. The EO is supposed to be 100% absolute but that is not REQUIRED. Believe me unless you plan on eating this stuff which I do not recommend, lol. I love the milk baths. Having hypothyroid my skin and nails dry out considerably after several showers. The milk bath is a great reward for this issue.

This is a nice collection of easy and beautiful recipes for handmade bath products, such as scrubs, bath teas, bath milks. Excellent gifts as well. I recommend it to the inexperienced who wish to make some easy products quickly or to the more experienced who needs some new ideas.

A delightful novella. Naomi has just been hired as a paralegal at her Uncle Roger's law firm. He uncle does not have a high opinion of her and Naomi is always looking over her shoulder. I received The virgin intern as an arc in return for my honest review. I loved this book so much that I bought it as soon as it came out. The story is amazing and the characters lovable. I just couldn't get enough. And if your lucky enough to read this book make sure you subscribe to her newsletter so you can get the marvelous epilogue.

A story of an intern who captures the eye of a lawyer she's suppose to stay away from. It's definitely a good read with a good story. I only wish there was more to it.. I felt like the story was rushed to end when there's so much potential for a series. I would definitely read it again.

WOW WHAT A WHIRLWIND THAT WAS AMAZING THINGS HAPPEN IN THE OFFICE LOL OR SHOULD I SAY THE COPY ROOM WOW SOO AMAZING AND ANDREW AND NAOMI SOO WONDERFUL TOGETHER AND THE LIST THAT HE MADE SOO HOTT. EVERYTHING THEY DID REALLY TOGETHER WOW!!!!! AND I'M SOO GLAD THAT SHE'S AWAY FROM HER CONTROLLING UNCLE

This book kept my interest from start to finish. I loved the build up and it had plenty of spice to keep the story hot. I’m interested to read more of her books.

This was a quick, hot read that I can easily recommend. There was much potential for filling in details about back stories and motive in terms of character development but what was provided was plenty to make it an enjoyable read without seeming like a deficiency. After all, it's a novella, so adjust your expectations accordingly, and just sit back and enjoy. The characters were easy to root for, except for the cantankerous uncle, of course. Highly recommend.

My first Penny Wylder book and it didn't disappoint. Andrew and Naomi play so well off each other. Penny gives you a couple to fall in love with and the one pesky person whose not happy in life and tries to cause problems. Great book if you want a quick and sexy read.

I just can't seem to get enough ,love all this authors stories .I read in one day,very exciting and inspiring story. Goes to show 1st impressions mean everything. A true love story with awesome ending where they stick it to the evil mean uncle .loved it
