I've been an Episcopal since I was baptized in the church and I went through confirmation, but recently I have felt like I didn't really understand my religion. When the topic of religion would come up I would always say I am an Episcopalian, but it was more of a superficial answer. This book is really helping me answer questions I have long had and grappled with. I would definitely recommend for anyone starting out in the church or wanting to know more about what they learned when they were young. This book is really making my spiritual journey much more enjoyable.

I read this book because I've heard that the Episcopal faith is welcoming and I've researched it here and there but wanted to learn more. This was great for the start of my journey. It was thorough but not overwhelming. Half way through this when I realized that my views matched what I was reading I went to a service. This book helped explain parts of the service and gave me a good starting knowledge. I strongly recommend this for those just starting to learn about the faith.

Using this book with an Adult Formation class. It allows for easy discussion and exploration. Provides good information based on Scripture, Tradition and Reason. Good for use with those new to the Episcopal Church, and thowe who want to know and explore more. A true Anglican "You don't have to check your brain at the door" approach

This is a very well-organized book. It serves as a good primer to the Episcopal church. We read it in my Confirmation class, and it really helped prepare me for being baptized. I highly recommend it.

Physicist Frank Close offers a short but enlightening look at a frequently misunderstood aspect of physical reality in his book Antimatter. In about 150 pages, Close delivers a solid summary of the historical and current research into the nature of the tricky particles, especially the positron.As a physics buff, albeit a non-technical one, Close's descriptions and narrative are easy to follow and not overly-detailed. He keeps close to his main points, explaining the nature of antimatter and exposing some of the latest experiments into its properties, without overburdening the reader with dense technical interjections. While I thought I understood antimatter prior to reading this book, Close provided a strong overview that supplements the understanding of most any popular physics reader, myself included.Close explores many of the theories surrounding the symmetries between normal matter and antimatter, as well as offering some thoughts on why we might see a universe which appears to be largely devoid of antimatter. While a small handful of antimatter particles have been created in labs around the world, as well as a few dozen antihydrogen atoms, the mysterious lack of antimatter in the universe remains one of the questions needing a great deal of further research to explain. Close uses the Tunguska event to explore the possibility that a chunk of antimatter could have caused the currently unexplained explosion in 1908 (Close determines it was not antimatter, but leaves the question open until the latter chapters). The author also debunks most of the antimatter properties and usages found in Dan Brown's Angels and Demons, as well as the idea that antimatter is likely to supplement traditional sources of energy found on the planet.Popular physics readers have good cause to pick up this tightly-focused book, and will almost certainly learn things about antimatter that aren't covered in many sources. It takes 100,000 years for that photon to reach the surface of the sun and escape, by which time its wavelength has changed to that of visible light, by a process of electron-positron creation followed by their recombination into a photon, over and over again for a thousand centuries.*The author shows you the trick that Dirac used to get rid of the exponent 2 in his equation to give it nice properties, so that it predicted electron spin and the positron. He needed to find a number with certain properties that no number can have, so he used a 2 by 2 matrix instead! When he moves up to 3-space it becomes a 4 by 4 matrix predicting spin.*The 1908 meteor that destroyed a large tract of land in Siberia was probably made of antimatter.*When you have a PET scan you ingest an analog of sugar that emits positrons, which combine with electrons and produce gamma rays. These are detected by the scanner and determine whether your cancer has spread.

At 148 pages, Mr. Close has produced a very nice little book on antimatter. It is well written, concise, and articulate, and can quite comfortably be read in just one sitting. To the point throughout, there is no spare or wasted verbiage here. Just a quick "in-and-out" on antimatter. The text contains no math whatsoever. As such, any person with a passing familiarity/interest in astronomy and particle physics will have no trouble reading and completely comprehending this book. (The book probably will be a little uncomfortable at first for readers who do not know what a positron or antiproton is, for example, but I suspect that the average reader of this book will already have a general interest in physics or astronomy such that the level of the book should not intimidate in any way whatsoever.)I particularly appreciated the length to which Mr. Close went to to de-bunk the idea promulgated implicitly in the movie "Angels and Demons" that antimatter explosive devices are just around the corner. Thank God they are not. Also debunked is the possibility that the Tunguska explosion in 1908 was the result of a piece of antimatter colliding with the Earth. Lamentably, Mr. Close also dashes hope for antimatter propulsion to the stars any time soon.All-in-all, if you wanted a short and sweet introduction to antimatter, you'll really enjoy this book.

This is an enjoyable discussion of modern particle physics. Although I would not characterize this as easy reading, the finest aspect of the book for me was how clearly and and cogently Professor Close writes about this highly complex subject. About the Author

A magna cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College in 1988, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand went on to receive her law degree from the UCLA School of Law in 1991 and served as a law clerk on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. After working as an attorney in New York City for nearly a decade, Gillibrand served as special counsel to Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Andrew Cuomo during the Clinton administration, then as an attorney before serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New York’s 20th Congressional District, which spans ten counties in upstate New York. Gillibrand was first sworn in as United States senator from New York in January 2009, filling Hillary Rodham Clinton’s seat. In November 2012 she was elected to her first six-year Senate term with 72 percent of the vote, a New York State record, winning sixty of New York’s sixty-two counties. She lives in Troy, New York, with her husband, Jonathan, and their sons, Theo and Henry.

Kirsten Gilibrand has told her story is a genuinely vulnerable way. I share her perspective as a working mom. My own life experiences are so similar. I am truly inspired after reading this book. I am affirmed in my goals to participate in promoting the common good, in holding our government representatives accountable, to promoting more women in office and to help the young people in my life make their dreams a reality.

Great insight into the workings of government, written by a dedicated participant. Inspiration to get involved and not just tolerate things you know are wrong, abound in every chapter. Good writing and can feel Kirsten's strength and determination. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.

The book was interesting and provided some insights into the world of a the female political candidate. As a female working in the corporate world, I felt that she tried too hard to paint herself as "super" mom (ala an old episode from the Mary Tyler Moore show) rather than demanding more support from her husband or just hiring a nanny.

Easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It touched on many aspects of my life, so I found it very relevant. Along the same vein of reading as Sheryl Sandberg for those of you who have read Lean In. However Senator Gillibrand' s influence is much deeper and on national topics. Still good motivational read for anyone, especially women, and those interested in politics.

It was an easy read. It was an introductory biography but I found it to be mundane. I was a bit disappointed with the book.

Executives book for my 29 year old son to be inntroduced to politics

I thoroughly loved this book. Lots of great stories from her childhood as well as her adult life, personal anecdotes mean to inspire the reader to stand up and be a leader in their communities. It's very readable and enjoyable. Finished this book in 3 days.

Given the current political situation it seems as good a time as any to get to know New York's junior senator.

A great book it's not the newest addition somethings have changed but it will get you through your test

I took this course back in 2007 and I don't blame the company because I never did get a job in this field, I don't think it was the right field for me. My instructor said I didn't have a good bedside manner. so I ended up pursuring other things. I thought shaving was very difficult and never did get the hang of it.

Standard must have for school or apprenticeship. Highly recommend the online practice test...pay one time and retest for a year....I passed the tests with flying. Colors because of the online test

Not bad. I just need to brush up before classes start but once school is on I'm purchasing the current edition.

Beware! This paperback edition is a custom edition that has eleven critical chapters less than the regular edition. I am writing this so that others will be aware of the error.
