Having been to Barcelona previously (perhaps 3 times?), I had a very exact list of "things to see and do" for this pre-cruise visit of 3 days. This is a very compact (easily placed in purse) little book (with a laminated cover) which contains short but good lists of places to visit in various categories, e.g., Markets, Beaches, Shopping, Squares, etc. A section then describes places to visit according to the several geographic areas of the city. The practical information section was up to date and accurate. I was delighted to discover that my hotel (the Marriott Cotton House) was situated in a perfect spot for easy walking to visit Casa Batllo and LaPedrera, which are both located on Passeig de Gracia, and to the Placa de Catalunya, where a tourbus would pick me up to go to Parc Guell. Had I more time, I would have done several of the walks suggested in the book. The enclosed laminated map (handy should it rain!) was of great help in deciding which "side-walks" I would explore each day and in getting me safely back to my hotel.

As a Big Apple Greeter in New York City, I contacted the Barcelona Greeter organization to arrange a Greet next December. They were very gracious, and suggested this guidebook.We've used the "Top Ten" series in other countries and cities with great pleasure; have both been to Barcelona before, separately and for four days at a time; and paging through this guide was a great pleasure, with fond memories and new and exciting adventures beautifully described.A real winner.Robert C. Excellent book! Detailed maps, concise descriptions, systematic organization, and convenient travel size. We bought two and will take them with us as the size fits exactly into our sling bags!

We only have 3 days in Barcelona during our upcoming trip. We know we can't see everything, so this is perfect for us. A real bonus is the pullout map in the pocket on the back cover.

This was the least useful Lonely Planet I've purchased. It had more about the places to stay and to eat than it did about the sights and history. Since travel by bus/train is difficult in Scotland, more information of how to get around if you hired a car would have been useful.There were a few good tips, however the maps were hard to read if you were changing regions. It would have also benefited from some discussion of travel time between the different sights.

As Rick Steves (I think) said, "Always take one actual tour guide" on a trip. Too awkward to find everything online. This was the book for us. During a one-month road trip throughout the northern half of Scotland, we used it extensively. It was also very useful as we were planning our trip.

My criticism of this is not so much for its content, because I'm not really sure about that. By purchasing this, I discovered that travel guides do not work well on a Kindle. I have not been able to enjoy reading this because, by nature, a guide is about skipping around, looking quickly back and forth at information and on a Kindle I find that all but impossible. I am really sorry I didn't pay a couple dollars more and purchase the actual book. On Kindle it was a waste of money.

It is a very helpful book with lots and lots of information. For me I would have preferred a little more of the Sights and Activities and a little less on the Eating and Drinking and Shopping, but I'm sure some people will feel just the opposite.

Scotland is one of the great destinations in Europe for those who value outdoor recreation, solitude, beautiful scenery, and lots of above-ground history. This Lonely Planet guide to Scotland is a valuable planning and touristing aid. The book covers the various regions of Scotland, from the major cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh to the famed Highlands and the Great Glen, to the Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland Islands, and does so in a compact but information-packed format of just under 500 pages.The guide opens with a highly readable introductory section, to allow the first time visitor to size the possibilities. The following chapters discuss Scotland by region, addressing things to see and do, where to stay, and where to eat. Concluding chapters touch on Scotland's unique culture and on some very practical survival tips, including its famously variable weather. The book has a decent selection of photographs and maps, and lots of interesting asides on unique sights and scenery. The coverage is not as complete as some other guides, but should be more than sufficient to plan a worthwhile visit or extended vacation.First time visitors should know that planning ahead is very worthwhile; Scotland's tourist infrastructure is fairly thin on the ground north of Edinburgh and Glasgow; hotel and inns tend to fill up fast during the summer season, or in the event of a festival or highland games celebration. Planning ahead will also allow the visitor to make connections between planes, trains, automobiles and ferries, especially in northern Scotland. Recommended.

I was really disappointed in this travel guide. I have bought Lonely Planet before for China ans Southeast Asia and it worked really well but this was shockingly bad. We based our week long tour of Scotland on this book's recommendations and were really thrown off when we would drive through small quaint towns that the book said didn't have anywhere to eat or explore and then find it was absolutely not the case! Or we would press on through said small towns and go to the recommended place and find it sorely lacking. I feel they copped out and just wrote reviews for places that paid them off. Some of the Castles weren't even in there either.

We just returned from a 10-day trip to Scotland. This book (along with Michelin Map, Scotland 501) proved to be an excellent resource for our trip. It's set up so you can use it as a quick reference resource or for in-depth planning (as we did). Lots of helpful tips and recommendations. We stayed in B&B's and enjoyed meals at restaurants the book recommended and were not disappointed. All travelers, from budget traveler to luxury traveler, will find tips and recommendations tailored to their needs. The book also adds some historical context along the way with more detail toward the end. The authors also include some humorous writing to keep things interesting. Well done!

Well recommended to that audience.And yes, that is the Hogwarts Train, also known as the Jacobite steam train in western Scotland.

This is about the only book on the market that I've been able to find on making aromatics that isn't just stuffed with useless "new age" tripe, especially on making incense. Incense is more than 5000 years old. Wicca and the literary works it is based on have been around at most 200 years. The use of incense in Christian services alone predates the wiccan use of it by at least 1800 years, yet every reference available bombards you with the nonsensical "modern" reinterpretation.Rubbish.The antiquity of incense is well established, and in all that time, the process for making it has changed little.If you are looking for a simple book on making incense, potpourri and other fragrant things, without all the odius drivel, this is the best I've been able to find to date.

As a general book for people wanting to work with fragrant materials it has some contribution, but I couldn't recommend the techniques on making incense, or for someone looking for books on natural aromatics. That just isn't what this book is about.

I work for a small business, that is rapidly growing. The two founders/leaders of the organization gave everyone a copy of this book, and then we had to participate in discussions on it. The book is fairly easy to read as it is just bullet points and anecdotes, one right after the other. I read through it twice in order to participate in the discussion. One thing that comes to mind when reading this book is "Jerry McGuire" as the character in that movie opposes the status quo in search of real meaning and of leading people who are true fans/followers.Other takeaways from the book: A leader of a tribe does not get permission, or follow rules, or wait to be asked - a leader just does it. A tribe follows that leader because the leader is passionate about what they are doing/creating and/or where they are going.A tribe is not a "hierarchy" that is found in some companies with higher and higher levels of position. With a tribe, the more you want in, the more you are in.

This book has become one of my favorite books, and I’m a self-help junkie. The things Seth says about a tribe and my part in it is never far from my mind. It has changed how I see my website, the books I write, my place in the world, and it has changed how I perceive myself. You know a book is a game-changer when your mind often pulls up something you’ve read from it. While I love my Kindle books I also love books I can mark up and easily refer back to so I’ve got the paper version of this one and it has lots of little Post-it flags on things that stood out (the whole book pretty much stood out but I can’t mark everything!). For example:“Curious people count. Not because there are a lot of them, but because they're the ones who talk to people who are in a stupor. They're the ones who lead the masses in the middle who are stuck. The masses in the middle have brainwashed themselves into thinking it’s safe to do nothing, which the curious can't abide.”“Crowds and tribes. Two different things: a crowd is a tribe without a leader. A crowd is a tribe without communication. Most organizations spend their time marketing to the crowd. Smart organizations assemble the tribe. Crowds are interesting, and they can create all sorts of worthwhile artifacts and market effects. But tribes are longer lasting and more effective.”There are a lot of great books out there but this is a must.

I found this to be a very inspirational book on the topic of daring to be a leader. It makes you see leaders can come in a variety of forms, they are not just made up of outgoing, exceptionally outspoken people standing in front of a crowd talking loud, being the center of attention. They can be a person in the background, creating a way for like-minded people to connect and move a cause forward. It makes you see that a person with a vision, an idea, a cause, can make real change, and why it's important to get going on what matters to you and stop waiting for the perfect time, as the time is now.I like that most of the topics are short and to the point. He doesn't ramble on. He gives you an idea and you take it from there. He doesn't give you a step by step manual on how to lead, he gives a concept of how tribes work and you as a leader work it out from there.Super fun book. Joined his email list as greatly enjoy his daily emails on variety of thoughts.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to make a difference. Anyone who is sick and tired of standing by watching things happen to them and is ready for a change. I read a number of reviews that were very negative about this book just before I started reading it and read it anyway. Very happy I did! No, you won't get step by step instructions here so don't look for them. The point is you already have what you need to lead. Just get out there believe in your mission and start gathering your tribe to move it forward.

I consider this more of a "messaging and inspiration" piece than anything with definitive steps to building a brand or setting yourself out there as a leader. It's a lot of him doing his Seth Godin thing, which is sorta ruminating on stories he's heard, people he's met, ideas that have come to him in the middle of the night. Very short little chapters that seem meant to get your mind grapes juicing, but don't expect anything concrete to work with.

One of the best of Seth Godin's books -- this one is the inspirational blueprint for making a difference in the world. It's got a few business references that are now outdated given that the book was written almost 10 years ago but the principles of how we operate as human beings hasn't changed. Seth captures the essence of what it means to connect and create meaning as a group. I bought several copies of this and gift it to others regularly.

About the Author

Dr. Enoch Hwang has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Riverside. He currently serves as a Professor of Computer Science at La Sierra University in Southern California, teaching digital logic and microprocessor design. In 2015, Dr. Hwang was invited to serve as a visiting professor to Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, where he taught their Digital Systems Design course. Many new ideas from that class have been incorporated into this edition of the book. From as early as childhood, Dr. Hwang was fascinated with electronic circuits. In one of his first experiments, he attempted to connect a microphone to the speaker inside a portable radio through the earphone plug. Instead of hearing sound from the microphone through the speaker, smoke was seen coming out of the radio. Thus ended that experiment and his family's only radio. He now continues on his interest in digital circuits with research in embedded microprocessor systems, controller automation, power optimization, and robotics.

Probably the best Kalashnikov reference guide available in the West, with hundreds of pictures both black and white and in full color, complete with descriptions of the numerous military variants to have come out of the Com Bloc during the Cold War plus the commercial variants offered on the US market. It also has sections dedicated to weapon accoutrement, bayonets, magazines, &c. and the differences between those offered by the manifold countries to have manufactured the Kalashnikov weapon system and its variants.Unfortunately, it lacks anything on the two most direct Western descendants of the Avtomat Kalashnikova, the Finnish Valmet Rk62, its family and descendants, and the Israeli Galil, although it does cover the Finnish Rk62 magazines in steel and polymer and the purchase by Finland of Chinese and Russian Kalashnikovs.

This is the definitive collector's book on the AK series of firearms. It covers the full series of the AK rifles country by country, and is lavishly illustrated with excellent mostly B&W photos covering the most minute details. It makes identifying the exact model of the rifle by country and by version of the rifle a cinch. By way of an example:I was sold a Chinese type 56 (AKM) with the built in spike bayonet. On close examination I noted absence of Chinese factory marks plus a few other small anomalies, compared with the illustrations in other AK books. Frank's book showed it was an Albanian copy of the type 56, and in seconds I could establish this. It details ALL of the differences, some of which I had missed. The book is fully comprehensive at this level throughout. The only thing that could add to the book is colour illustrations throughout, although there is a pretty comprehensive set of colour illustrations at the end. This would add a lot to the cost though. I rate this book as the 'bible' of the AK series. Don't waste your money on any others, as you will end up having to buy this one anyway.

As an avid gun nut and AK collector, I was looking for a complete book to search for ideas for new rifles to add to my collection. This one was as close as I could find to being complete. It lists just about every variant of AK 47 / AK-74, AKS, and other derivatives out there. The book is well written. There are a few editing errors but nothing really to complain about. My biggest gripe is the photos are all black and white. For the amount of $ you spend on this book, I expect color. While most AK rifles may look the same superficially, there are some differences that can only be spotted with colored, detailed comparisons offered by a color photograph. Buy the book if you're a Kalishnakov fan. Worth it.

Excellent reference. What keeps me from giving 5 stars is that I was hoping for more detail. But I can't really fault the author for that, since I understand that to keep the book to a "manageable" 1100 pages, something HAS to get left out. No doubt he had a vicious editor. Fifty-two pages devoted to magazines and it barely scratches the surface. If it had the detail I would like it would be the size of an Unabridged Oxford English Dictionary.Paper IS a bit thin, but with a nice finish, and photographs are sharp.I suspect that the weight of the paper is a factor of being 1100 pages.Good photos, but too many shots of the left side only for my taste. Myself, if I can't see both sides, I want to see the right side, but this is nitpicking.Now the author needs to get to work and produce an 1100 page book on each nation's AK......

Its already been said in other reviews that this book is THE ENCYCLOPEDIA for the Avtomat Kalashnikov family of rifles.It starts by explaining how Mikhail Kalashnikov created the AK rifle and then goes in depth about all of the different variants, manufacturers and countries that have produced this weapon and gives full details on each one.Its a full 1 5/8" thick.Yes, okay, it does has some typos. But thats like having a typo in the bible, yeah its got typos and stuff but its still the bible. I havnt got alltheway through it yet so I dont know if mine has misprinted pages or if some of the facts are not correct, I wouldnt have known anyways. Im not a gunsmith, I recently bought a Saiga12 and wanted to learn more about the orginal AK rifle of which I knew almost nothing. Buy this book! Amazon has the best price anywhere, some places want over $100 for this book! Its looks beautiful just sitting on the shelf.

The AK is for certain the most prolific assault rifle design in existence with hundreds of variants in the rifle itself and the accessories. Frank Iannamico does a great job to catalog nearly the full breadth and depth of all things "Avtomat Kalashnikov" and even for its clones. This is a solid, comprehensive, complete reference - with no "swiss cheese" (i.e. no 'holes') in the coverage of the vast domain of AK and AK-related items. What can I say other than the fact that Frank always does his homework when writing his books. My only criticism is with the editing: several pages are printed out of correct order / sequence.

Excellent reference for the AK-47 & variants. I own the 1st edition of the book and decided to get the 2nd Edition as well. There are many updates in the 2nd Edition. Nice photos & excellent descriptions of the rifles, accessories, magazines, bayonets, etc. This is my go to reference book for AK47 rifles & accessories.

Most thorough book I have ever encountered on any weapon. As a Kalashnikov owner, collector or fan of them. You want this book. Great photos color and b&w, in depth descriptions of all the variants, the bayonets, timeline productions, etc.Everything, you might imagine or want to know.
