Some images take up full pages or multiple pages. Most illustrations share the page with text.5. Every inch of the book is illustrated or decorated in some fashion. There are NO white pages in the book. Even the pages without large illustrations have the paper printed and marked with ink blots or paper "stains".I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to read the series (again, or for the first time), especially if you plan to read this with someone younger. If this book is a demonstration of what is to come with the illustrated editions for the rest of the series, we're all in for six more impeccable treats.

I LOVE THE STORY. Illustrations are great. PROBLEM is that the book came missing pages 153-168 because 137-152 were printed twice. It took me a week to realize this. You will want to check your books. I'm sure Amazon will take care of me but thank goodness I wasn't gifting this.

These illustrated editions of Harry Potter were done right! All of the original text is there and the artwork is beautiful. Every page has something, whether it's an illustration that takes up a full double page spread, a little drawing in the corner, a thematic border, or just a visually textured background. It may sound chaotic, like the visuals could be too much and break up the flow of reading but it is not; it enhances the story as you turn the pages and delight in the new visuals that each page brings. I imagine these would be a great way to bring children into the story, but they're so nice you may want to protect and collect these beauties. I can't wait for them to release the others.

I think this is my third reading of the Harry Potter series. The first time is a precious memory to me. Our four children would all climb into our king size bed before bedtime and we would read one or two chapters each evening. We homeschooled so, as each child's reading progressed, they read a part too. Their mom died. They're in late 20s now. Five grandkids. Those will be ready to read to before we know it. But life is not always neatly packaged. I married a widow and moved us all. Today they are off to their own lives. My four and I are scattered across four states and even overseas. So, I'm reading to myself now. I can't make a stronger recommendation than to say that I immediately purchased "The Order Of The Phoenix" after finishing this one. I also have the set in hardbound on the bookshelf beside me. But Kindle is just too convenient. *smile*

My husband tried to surprise me with this order, but we share the amazon account ;)I WAS surprised though, because I didn’t realize it would be textbook size with all these amazing scenes drawn out. They’re AH-MAY-ZING drawings!! If you love Harry Potter, you will love these books. For some reason, hubs couldn’t find the first and second of the series (I did ;p) so he bought the third first, but we know the stories by heart so it doesn’t matter to me. I hope they put out all of them! It almost feels like how I felt waiting for the actual series to come out.

If you're looking for a how-to, this book isn't it. It's a couple of techies trying to impress people with their technical knowledge--typical IT doublespeak. It's illogically set up, repetitious, not well-written and only tells you what the program does, not how to use it.

I have been a fan of "dummies" books since the beginning and own many titles. The bottom line is that if this book were a ham sandwich, you would need a microscope to find the Ham! It lacks depth and does not give you much of anything that you would need to get a basic SharePoint site up an running.

It is probably a decent book for SharePoint 2016, but apparently I have SharePoint online and was too naive to know there was a difference. I don't think the description told me what to look for when looking for help.

Was really hoping there would have been a bigger section on SharePoint with Office 365 but over all a great bi of knowledge on SharePoint.

Was not impressed with the level of writing, the repetition, the lack of a logical order of concepts, and the very small, unusable images in the Kindle version. No thank you.

This book is helping me understand my role in my organization as a SharePoint administrator even better. As a long time fan off the For Dummies book. I found it to be an informative read and would recommend it to anyone new to SharePoint.

Wasn't until recently that I tried one of these "for dummies" books. These books really do help me pick up the basics needed when first learning a new subject. This book helped my contributions and involvement with a SharePoint project I was thrown into.

Very helpful for the beginner. However SharePoint is always evolving.

I preordered this book a couple of months ago, fighting tears while sitting in a pool of sweat and feeling disgusting in clothes that were too tight. I was like, "I'm a nurse g-d damn it! Why don't I know about this sh*t!" And why am I talking like a sailor?! I don't talk like that! I had read some articles on the internet, and while they clued me in to some of my symptoms being menopause-related (I was one of those people wondering if I had early-onset Alzheimer's), they also were kinda negative. The message was try hormones, but basically life sucks from now on. This book is positive and straightforward; and while I realize it's got to be upbeat because it's a self-help book, it is also SO GENUINE! And thank you Dr. Allmen for mentioning your dog, because my dogs seriously are my ticket to physical and emotional health so often lately. I'm feeling really positive about facing this new challenge now!

When I hit perimenopause (or rather, it hit ME) at age 46, I thought I was going nuts. Nobody had ever told me what to expect from menopause except for hot flashes (and my older sisters cackling cryptically and saying, "Just wait"). Even my beloved gynecologist was no help -- I went to her in a panic about my cognitive problems, and her response was, "Yep!" "What can I do?" I asked. "When does this go away?" She looked at me for a long moment and then said perkily, "Oh, never! But you get used to it!" NO WAY MAN. She refused to even discuss hormone replacement because it was "too dangerous." Well, I'm not going gentle into that good night. I got on the internet and searched "menopause specialist."Dr. Allmen's practice was the first Google hit. I'm lucky enough to live in NYC, so I was able to make an appointment with her, and she asked that I read her book before coming in. BOY was it worth it! She couldn't have explained all this to me in THREE one-hour appointments. I came in armed with a lot of information and bearing very few questions, because this book really answers a lot of them. It's thorough, detailed, and funny -- but most importantly, it made me feel IN CONTROL OF MY OWN LIFE for the first time in 6 years. I went to my appointment knowing the risks and potential rewards of the various treatments, and with a pretty good idea of how I wanted to proceed, and we discussed it as equals and agreed on a plan of treatment. I don't feel like a washed-up old crone anymore.Thank you, Dr. Allmen, for helping me feel like a whole person again!

I wanted to like this book as it was recommended to me. Unfortunately I found the author’s writing style to be very self-promoting. She may be an expert, but I didn’t need to be continually reminded of it. Similarly, she constantly seemed to be “selling” or previewing upcoming chapters. That’s fine once or twice, but it seemed repetitive. I think there is some good information in the book, I just had a hard time sticking with it because of her style.

This woman SAVED me!!! If you are having ANY menopausal symptoms, this is the book for you!!!!...it will truly change everything we've been led to believe by mainstream media. I suffered for over four years with 20-30 severe hot flashes a day...to the point that at times I felt like I was going to have a breakdown (everything I did triggered them) and then I found Dr Allmen...Thank God!! If you can't get to see this wonderful, revolutionary doctor in NYC, then you need to buy this book and I am sure if you are her patient, like I am, you bought it as soon as it came out. Novus Ordo Seclorum by Forrest McDonald is well described by its subtitle, The Intellectual Origins of the Constitution. I found the book well organized and relatively easy to read in comparison with Donald Lutz’s The Origins of American Constitutionalism (which I’ve read and reviewed) and Bernard Bailyn’s The Ideological Origins of the Constitution (which I admit I’m still struggling to finish).Novus Ordo Seclorum flows very logically. The main chapter titles illustrate the logical flow:1. The Problem2. The Rights of Englishmen3. Systems of Political Theory4. Systems of Political Economy5. The Lessons of Experience, 1776-17876. The Framers7. The Convention8. Powers, Principles and ConsequencesSome of the most significant ideas that stuck with me after reading Novus include the following:1. The Lockean Idea of Equality: All men are created equal in the sense that none has a natural right to rule others (politically). This idea was intended as an argument against absolute monarchy, the divine right of kings, claimed by the Stuart monarchs of the 17th Century. It was probably in this sense that the phrase found its way into the Declaration of Independence. Subsequent criticism of Jefferson as hypocritical for writing such high sounding words while holding slaves is justifiable in terms of today’s political standards. However, in 1776, the words were focused entirely upward at the monarchy. The idea that they could apply downward had not yet been commonly understood.2. Locke postulated a logical system of natural law based on three principles: (1) Man has a duty to honor his Creator, (2) Therefore, Mankind ought to be preserved since to do otherwise would dishonor the Creator, (3) Since Mankind needs to live in Society to preserve itself, if follows that Society must be preserved.3. Locke goes on: In a State of Nature, the earth and all things belong to Mankind in common. However, every individual own his body and his labor, and, consequently, the products of his labor. When he mixes his labor with what Nature has provided, he creates property that is uniquely his own.4. There were two strains of Republicanism: Puritanical Republicanism sought moral solutions to political and economic problems while Agrarian Republicanism sought more effective political-economic-social arrangements to solve these problems. Puritanical Republicanism, as the name suggests, was strongest in New England, while Agrarian Republicanism was strongest in the middle and southern colonies. (I’m not sure why the term Agrarian was chosen since the approach would appear to apply to commercial and manufacturing settings as well as agricultural.)5. In the late 18th Century, three systems of political economy were in competition: (1) The Mercantilists held that all economics, and international trade in particular, were a zero-sum system based on a fixed, finite pool of wealth, (2) The Physiocrats held that the pool of wealth could be increased but only slightly and only by means of agricultural labor, (3) Capitalism held that the pool of wealth could be increased dramatically by capital investment and more efficient allocation of labor.6. Following the American Revolution, the states, under the Articles of Confederation, sought to impose mercantilist systems in their economic relations with each other as well as with the outside world. The Constitution established free trade among the states (Article 1), thereby creating the largest free trade zone in the world. I have read elsewhere that the elimination of the Corn Laws in Britain in the 1840s led to the rise of capitalism and free trade throughout the Atlantic world. I now suspect that, after Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations, the US Constitution was the next most significant document leading to growth of capitalism and free trade. To me, at least, this was a significant revelation. Thanks, Dr. McDonald.

Book Review Number Seven: year 2018Novus Ordo Seclorum Forrest McDonaldThis book goes deep into the foundation of the Constitution…the result was an amalgam of doctrines-political, philosophical, colloquial- like no other.The chronicles of the past gave them countless examples on how governments failed, but nowhere could they find a concise record of how one began.The laws of England, while workable in England, were found to be ill-fitted in colonial America. Unlike the geographic confinements of Britain, with the limited natural resources at their disposal, there was great abundance of land in the colonies. Trees were everywhere; restrictions on harvesting lumber were meaningless. Game was seemingly unlimited throughout the colonies; the restrictive hunting laws of England, accordingly, couldn’t be applied without creating points of friction. The evolution of the American individual thus begins its course. In time, the yeoman farmer or merchant develops a resistance to taxes and overreaching government incursions.The learned classes throughout the colonies thus begin to search the written record for different forms of government and theories concerning wealth distribution, taxation, representation, mercantilism and so on. A corresponding plethora of political philosophers are sought for guidance: Blackstone, Hume, Montesquieu, Adam Smith among many others; and a given philosophic direction would be abandoned once that point of view no longer served a given change of circumstances, such as John Locke’s theories prior to then after the actual war. A different people, the author points out, has emerged. (Hamilton’s contributions were somewhat unique, in that he relied heavily on the philosophy of Emmerich Vattel whose writing were not well known by the other founders. This is addressed at length in Forrest McDonald’s book on Hamilton.)Interesting episode on page 265, demonstrating the careful diligence to detail that was maintained. A semi-colon is substituted for a comma, evidently put there with ulterior motives by Guoverneur Morris. This minor change of punctuation would have altered the meaning of article 1, section 8 of the Constitution. (You might say ,-;=!) The legerdemain was noted and corrected by Roger Sherman. There’s also a footnote on this page, addressing the issue further.Speaking of footnotes, they are placed at the bottom of the page, not in back of the book; and they’re helpful footnotes which clarify the paragraph concerned, not just an endless trail of “ibids” and “see alsos.” This format is pointed out by the author in the preface.History lessons are encountered along the way: Shay’s Rebellion, Stamp Act, Townshend Acts and so forth.A captivating trip through the time machine of history, along the bricked sidewalks of old Philadelphia, through the cobblestone courtyards and vast woodlands of New England, and across the rolling hills of Virginia.Appendix A: delegates to the Constitutional Convention.Appendix B: The Constitution, less Bill of Rights.293 pages to appendix A. a sturdy paperback, ample room for writing notes, with an alluring cover of forest green.

About the Author

Loyal Jones Bio: Jones was born in Marble, Cherokee County, and lived there until he was 12, when his family moved to Brasstown in Clay County. “We were farmers, living on rented land,” he said. One of eight children, Jones served a brief stint in the Navy after high school, and then worked as a farmer and horse trainer before enrolling as an undergraduate at Berea College. Jones began writing in college, but did not publish until several years later. He has been a prolific writer with literally dozens of published articles concerning Appalachian culture and its people to his credit. One characteristic of Jones' writing is optimism about the resiliency of mountain people and their culture, says Ron Eller, former director of the Appalachian Center at the University of Kentucky. Jones' message has been that Appalachia should be judged by its own core values - family, land, traditionalism - rather than by more mainstream values of accumulation, wealth and power, Eller said. “In many ways, he represents the best of Appalachia, the part of Appalachian society that values people for what they really are.” In his years of writing and speaking about the region, Jones has become one of its best-known and best-loved figures. In addition to the numerous articles he has written about Appalachia, he has also authored nine books, including multiple volumes on regional humor.Billy Edd Wheeler Bio: Billy Edd Wheeler was born on December 9, 1932. Wheeler graduated from Warren Wilson College in 1953, and Berea College in 1955. Most books I've seen about Southern or Mountain humor are making fun of the people from these areas. However, after living in this area (East TN) for 9 years (and having grandparents from the border of TN/NC), I really appreciated the perspective of this book. It's gentle, insightful, respectful and funny. I found the first copy at a used book store, and enjoyed it so much, I ordered another copy from Amazon and had it mailed to my Dad. He has a need for humor and his parents were the ones from this area. I would like to get more books from these authors as well.

humorous, not politically correct but some old-timey jokes won't kill you... enjoyable in small doses...

I read a few more stories every morning over coffee. A good start to my day. If you like country humor, you will like this book.
